NEWSCAF expresses shock at Port Said tragedy 02-01-2012
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expressed shock at the tragedy that befell Egyptian football on Wednesday (February 1, 2012) during a league involving Al Masry and Al Ahly in Port Said. Scores of fans lost their lives and hundreds injured during clashes between fans of the two clubs after the match. CAF President, Issa Hayatou currently in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea has sent a message of condolence to the Egyptian Football Association. “African football is in a state of mourning,” said Hayatou. Also, a minute’s silence will be observed for victims during the quarter final matches of the 2012 Orange Africa Cup of Nations later this weekend. It would be recalled that the Egyptian capital, Cairo, has served the headquarters of the continent’s soccer governing body since its inception in 1957. |
