African duo in Arab Champions League final
North African sides, Esperance of Tunisia and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco have qualified to the finals of the Arab Champions League after victories in their 2nd leg semi-final matches over the weekend.

Esperance, 1994 African champions beat holders Entente Setif of Algeria 2-0 to advance 3-0 aggregate whilst Wydad thumped CS Sfaxien of Tunisia 2-0 and inched through 3-1 on aggregate to the last two of the Arabian version of the CAF Champions League.

The exit by holders Entente Setif, the only club to successfully defend the title in the history of the annual competition completed a disastrous weekend after losing out to CA Bordj Arreridji on penalties four days later in the Algeria FA Cup semis.

The Tunisian league leaders Esperance went into the return match with a 1-0 lead from the first leg and doubled their aggregate advantage within eight minutes of the kick-off when Zine al-Abidine converted a spot kick.

Setif’s hopes were completely dashed when Wajdi Bouazzi struck three minutes from time.

Earlier, hopes of an all-Tunisia final died off on Saturday when CS Sfaxien fell 2-0 at Wydad Casablanca of Morocco . Hicham Jouiaa put Wydad ahead on 55 minutes and Mustapha Bidoudane grabbed the tie-clinching second goal in the final minute for a Wydad.

The final will be staged over two legs on dates to be announced later.

The annual championship is participated by clubs from the Arab Region including Africa.
