FIFA has just designated referees retained for the World Cup in South Africa. Africa will be represented by four central referees and eight assistant referees who will officiate in groups of three.
The three are the following :
-         Mohamed Benouza (Algeria)
Nasser Abdel Nadi (Egypt)
Maamar Chabane (Algeria)

-         Koman Coulibaly (Mali)
Redouane Achik (Morocco)
Manuel Candido (Angola)

-         Jerome Damon (South Africa)
Celestin Ntagungira (Rwanda)
Enock Molefe (South Africa)

-         Eddy Allen Maillet (Seychelles)
Evarist Menkouande (Cameroon)
Bechir Hassani (Tunisia)

At 40, Koman Coulibaly has been international referee since 1999. He has officiated five Africa Cup of Nations starting with that of 2002 at home in Mali up to the final of January 31 between Egypt and Ghana. He has also officiated the U-17 and U-20 2009 World Cups.
The Seychellian, Eddy Maillet is the oldest among the four central referees with 43 years of age. Being an international referee since 2001, he has officiated four ACN since 2004. He refereed seven matches during the U-17 World Cup in 2003 and 2007. He was also retained for the Confederations Cup in 2009, but did not officiate any match.
Born in 1972, the South African, Jerome Damon has also refereed four ACN since his first selection in 2004. Besides being a substitute referee during the World Cup in 2006 in Germany, he officiated the World Clubs Championship in 2008, before moving to Pekin same year for the Olympic Games.
The Algerian, Mohamed Benouza has been an international referee since 2001. He has to his credit two Africa Cup of Nations and an U-17 World Cup in 2007. The selection of Mohamed Hamsal would make 20 years that an Algerian referee has not been retained for the World Cup.

From February 22 to 25, the 12 selected will undergo medical tests in Zurich. On February 28, they will fly to Las Palmas (Spain) in order to undertake Cooper tests. The process will last up to March 5. Then, it will be in South Africa for World Cup matches in June.
