NEWSRohr: Our supporters are our No. 1 player 01-23-2012
Gabon national team manager Gernot Rohr expressed his delight with the atmosphere surrounding his team before they kick off their games in the 2012 Orange Africa Cup of Nations against Niger. Rohr was speaking in the pre match press conference as he said that he feels fans’ support everywhere, and that the supporters keep motivating his side. “The fans are our No. 1 player and we lay our hopes on them. We have to make use of this support as we’re not just looking for our opener but to go far in the tournament”, Rohr said. The Panthers manager added “My players learnt well the lesson from the opening match between Equatorial Guinea and Libya. Now they know well how the fans could push the team towards winning the match”. The German tactician believes that Group C where his team plays is the group of death as it includes besides co-hosts Gabon the likes of Morocco, Tunisia and Niger, but he claimed his team is ready for that. “The openers are always important, and our opponents Niger are very strong and have high technical and physical abilities. We have won them before by a lone goal and we’re looking forward to beat them again. That match is the most important for us”, Rohr explained. Rohr considered the debut match for Niger as a motivation for his opponents, especially with the presence of their experienced manager Harouna Doula and a bunch of good players, yet he said that won’t stop Gabon from winning. Regarding the other game in the group he said “We don’t care about other results. Surely it’s good if they play for a draw but what matters for us is our games. We have to win and qualify regardless the other matches”. Gabon manager expressed his dissatisfaction with the rumors surrounding his team especially after some papers claimed there’s a dispute between captain Daniel Cousin and Eric Molongui. “That’s totally untrue, and it aims for affecting us negatively. It’s a shame that this comes from Gabonese press. Both players are here in the press conference to prove there’s nothing of what they claimed”, Rohr concluded. Cousin and Molongui appeared at the conference to announce they have no clash at all and that the rumors around them are totally fake. |
