Ivorian Doumbia adjudged Russia’s best

Ivorian Seydou Doumbia has been adjudged Russian Player of the Year 2011.
 
The striker, who turns 24 on December 31, topped in the poll by Russia’s football journalists conducted by the ‘Football’ Weekly newspaper. He gained 591 points in the poll that involved every player in the Russian elite division.
 
Doumbia has been in great form scoring 33 goals in all competitions for his club CKA Moscow. His goals have been pivotal for his club who are due to face Spanish giants Real Madrid at the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League next year.
 
He also expected to be named in the Elephants’ squad for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
 
Ukrainian Andrei Voronin was runner-up with 505 points whilst Russian Alexander Kerzhakov finished third on 129 points.
 
Doumbia becomes the first African player to win the topmost award since its inception in 1992.
