NEWSEsperance treble winning coach Maaloul leaves the club 01-04-2012
The current Orange CAF Champions League holders Esperance Sportive du Tunis announced on their official website that manager Nabil Maaloul has left the team after leading them to a historical treble in 2011. Esperance won the Tunisian Championship, the Tunisia Cup and the CAF Champions League after they last won it 17 years ago. The Tunisian club's press release read "After meeting the club president Hamdy El Moadab, manager Nabil Maaloul decided to leave the club. El Moadab accepted the manager's wish, and the Youth team manager El Araby Zaoui will temporarily coach the first team till reaching an agreement with a new manager". Zaoui led the team's training session on Tuesday after a 2 day rest. Maaloul 49 told local media "I decided to quit training, not to leave Esperance which I am a part of. I spent a historical season with the club winning an unprecedented treble and playing in the Club World Cup in Japan. As I have no bigger ambition I decided to have some rest". Maaloul who is also well known as a football analyst in North Africa added "Frankly I quit training because I want to get back to my football analysis career". Maaloul succeeded Faouzi Benzerti as Esperance manager in December 2010 after the Tunisians lost Champions League final to DR Congo side TP Mazembe. Esperance currently lie 11th in the Tunisian Championship with 4 points from 3 games, 15 points adrift from leaders CA Bizerte, but the African Champions have four ( 4 ) games in hand. Maaloul played his football career as a midfielder with Esperance before finishing off playing for rival club Club Africain. He assisted French manager Roger Lemerre who won the 2004 Orange CAF Cup of Nations with Tunisia. |
