NEWS CAF Awards preparation 03-06-2010
Organizers of the Glo-CAF Awards have breezed into town to commence organizational activities ahead of the much awaited Awards Gala fixed for Thursday, March 11 at the Banquet Hall, Accra. A 115-member crew from South African event organizing firm, True Colours Event arrived in Accra on Wednesday to begin preparations for the biggest ceremony on the African football calendar that seeks to celebrate and reward all outstanding footballers, officials and all who matter as far as the world’s most popular sport is concerned. The crew have arrived to assemble and operate equipment geared towards an expected spectacular show that will serve a deservingly platform to crown the foremost player on African soil. The South African firm came prepared with over 48 tons of equipment towards staging a successful event, which were immediately moved to an appointed warehouse around the city centre. Bobby Scott, Chief Executive Officer of True Colour Events said the equipment are made up of staging, lighting, sound, AV, trussing, furniture, draping, décor elements, tables and chairs, Bedouin tents, medical equipment, cabling, outboards, sound desks, monitors and generators. He added that design elements such as booklets, CD's, signages and info sheets as well as branding materials, certificates and plasmas were also air-lifted from South Africa. “We have a crew of 115 that will be used to put this master piece together and this includes artists, production crew, dancers, medics, security, sound/visual/AV technicians, décor designers & stylists, creative directors, show callers, stage and logistic managers, ground support, runners and choreographers,” Scott noted. The South African firm has been credited with the touch of class organizational skills displayed at previous galas and this year’s edition is expected to follow suit. The crew dig the ground running moments after their arrival, and are putting together the pieces at the Banquet Hall, to get the venue ready for the event. Meanwhile, an array of globally acclaimed artistes are billed to perform at the event. Amongst them are P-Square from Nigeria, Ishmael Lo of Senegal and Ghanaian Kwabena Kwabena. Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien, his Chelsea teammate Didier Drogba of Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o Fils are the contenders for CAF African Footballer Year 2009 award. Essien has yet to be decorated with the prestigious crown whilst Etto’o has been crowned thrice in 2003, 2004 and 2005, and Drogba in 2006 incidentally in Accra.
