Morocco sack Roger Lemerre
07-10-2009

Roger Lemerre, coach of the Moroccan national team, has been sacked after only one year in charge of the Atlas Lions.

The Frenchman was recruited with the aim of qualifying the Atlas Lions for the 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa next year.

“The Moroccan Royal Federation of Football Association (FRMF) has decided to separate amicably from the national team coach, Roger Lemerre,” announced the FRMF.

“The President of the FRMF, Ali Fassi Fihri and Roger Lemerre had agreed to an amicable departure,” a FRMF confirmed to AFP.

“Roger Lemerre was dismissed for unsatisfactory performance,” added a source.

Morocco held to a barren draw by Togo last June, occupies the third spot in Group A of the qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations with two points from three games, four points adrift of leaders Gabon.
