Le Guen named cameroon coach

Paul Le Guen has been named as the new coach of the Cameroon national team. The new was officially made public on Wednesday in Yaounde by Cameroon’s minister of Sports and Physical Eductaion.

News that Paul Le Guen shall be the next Coach of the indomitable Lions of Cameroon is just being digested by the sporting community in Cameroon. The former PSG, Lyon, Glasgow Rangers and Rennes coach will takeover the reigns of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon before the end of the month of July in order to enable him have enough time to prepare the team ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifying matches in September.
 
Paul Le Guen said to be a principle coach is expected to be presented to the Cameroonian sporting public by the new minister for Sports and Physical Education Michel Zoua in the days ahead as soon as he arrives Cameroon. Le Guen replaces Thomas Nkono as the coach of the national team after just weeks in charge and he is expected to sign a 6 months contract with Cameroon that will see him in charge of the lions till after the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola. His first game will be the August 12 friendly with Austria in Vienna.
 
Iya Mohammed President of the Cameroon Football Federation was in Paris, France to finalise discussions with the 45 year old trainer. Young and result driven, Paul le Guen is one of the rising coaches in French football who has proven his mettle coaching teams in the top flight. He won three championship titles with Lyon and helped reshaped the future of the club that dominated French football for the more than seven years. Paul Le Guen is known for his rigid training methods and tough discipline which saw abruptly end his contract at Ibrox while coaching Glasgow Rangers following a series of disagreements with influential player and Captain Barry Ferguson. It will be the French coach’s first duty as coach of a national team.
 
Le Guen will have the Herculean task of qualifying the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon for the 2010 AFCON and World Cup competitions and his first major challenge shall be to restore discipline and the winning spirit of the team.
