NEWSSani Lulu: 09-04-2009
“We are in a critical stage, the players are very much aware of that. The country is tensed and everyone believes that Nigeria should be in South Africa for the 2010 World Cup. And we in the federation are working tirelessly to ensure we get there,” said Sani Lulu, Nigeria Football Federation president while in Cairo for CAF committee meetings. Nigeria faces Tunisia in a very crucial Group B African Cup of Nations/ World Cup 2010 qualifying encounter on Sunday 6 September 2009 in Abuja. Tunisia is at the top of the group with 7 points garnered from two wins and a draw while Nigeria trails with 5 points from a win, two draws and a loss. Nigeria’s chances of reaching the World Cup final in South Africa, according to bookmakers, will depend on the outcome of the match in Abuja. “We believe the team is in the highest state of mind to win and achieve. It is very encouraging the level of discipline exhibited by the players, especially honouring our invitation to report to camp. This has enabled them to train together and put some finishing touches to their game plan before the D-day,” Said Lulu. ‘It is also very important to note that the Federal government is leading the vanguard to give maximum support to the team. Just recently, we agreed to give the players additional motivational support, which has been fulfilled by Mr. president and this is surely an added advantage and a very good demonstration of how ready we are,” said Lulu. Regarding challenges faced so far, Sani Lulu said: “The boys are more than ever before patriotic and willing to represent Nigeria in South Africa. As a united family, we have succeeded in over coming the few challenges because we know the solution. And I think I have never had this sought of maximum cooperation before particularly from the players, technical crew, government and all Nigerians.” Sani Lulu assured that the Nigerian team is solid and with good striking force, saying: “I have great confidence in my technical crew and the technical committee of the football house. We have gone round the world and done our job. I am yet to discover who could be better that these players. Everyone for the first time is supporting the technical crew on the selected players. |
