Angola 2010 Orange CAN Trophy Tour set in motion

The Trophy Tour for the Angola 2010 Orange Africa Cup of Nations which began on Thursday, October 1, in Accra, Ghana made its 5th journey to Uganda before heading back to CAF headquarters in Egypt.

The tour, an initiative of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and sponsored by Standard Bank, one of the official sponsors of the tournament is aimed at raising awareness regarding the continental showpiece event as it presents football fans an opportunity to have a visual view of the original Orange Africa Cup of Nations trophy.

The programme, initiated in the run up to the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, is also aimed at whipping up the enthusiasm of soccer fans across the continent ahead of the 27^th edition of the biennial event to be staged in Angola from 10 January to 31 January, 2010.

Ghana, hosts of the last edition of the tournament is the trophy’s first stop in a seven-nation tour. The trophy arrived in Accra on Wednesday, September 30 in the company of Sarah Mohamed El Gazzar, Assistant to Marketing Director of CAF and was welcomed by officials of Stanbic Bank Ghana, subsidiary of Standard Bank led by Mawuko Afadzinu, Head of Marketing and Public Relations.

Standard Bank, also sponsors of the Orange Champions League, Orange Confederation Cup, Orange African Youth Championship and African Nations Championship (CHAN) is the only African corporate sponsor of next year’s Orange Africa Cup of Nations.
