NEWSGyan: “We’re hungry for success” 01-30-2010
Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan believes their thirst for success will spur them on to victory against holders Egypt in Sunday’s final of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations, Angola 2010. The Black Stars are hoping for their first ever triumph at the continental showpiece event since 1982, whilst Egypt have their eyes fixed on an unprecedented seventh title. Gyan, hero for the Ghanaians in their last two matches against hosts Angola and Nigeria at the quarters and semis stages respectively told cafonline.com that the trophy remains their ultimate ambition. For a team that nobody gave them a dog’s chance, reaching the last two is enough a motivation for the Stade Rennais forward and his colleagues, however, there is a strong zeal to go the extra mile. “We are hungry for success. Not many gave us a chance of reaching this far and we are motivated to push till the very end.” Against the Pharaohs, rated as the best side of the tournament, Gyan reckons a tough outing against the highly experienced Egyptian team, which have been playing together since 2006. “The game against Egypt will be tough, but we are motivated by our performances against Angola and Nigeria. Egypt is more experienced and they play as a unit.” However, Gyan and his colleagues are determined overturn the books once again in their favour. Having scored three goals, one adrift of leading marksman, Mohamed “Geddo” Nagy of Egypt, the top scorer prize is not the major ambition of the 24-year old. “My main concern is not the goalking. I want to score to aid the team to victory,” noted Gyan. Gyan scored the first goal at the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. |
