NEWSEgypt celebrate Pharaohs for AFCON triumph 02-07-2010
The Egyptian national teams, Pharaohs, were last Friday honoured with a musical concert for their treble achieving feat at the just ended Orange Africa Cup of Nations. The Pharaohs beat Ghana’s Black Stars 1-0 in the final to achieve an unprecedented third successive triumph and to take their overall tally to seven. About 50,000 fans were present at the Cairo International Stadium for the concert, organized in honour of the record-breaking Egyptian team. Head coach Hassan Shehata and the members of the playing body paraded the Africa Cup of Nations trophy around the Stadium in response to cheers from the crowd. Egyptian Singer and composer, Amr Diab graced the event and paid tribute to the Pharaohs for their historic feat. However, the foreign legion of the Pharaohs squad was not present at the musical fiesta, having returned to their clubs. Earlier in the week, Egypt President Hosni Mubarak presented medals of honour to the team in recognition of their record achieving feat. President Mubarak granted first-rate sports’ medals of honour to the 23-man squad, 12 dressing room officials and eight members of the Egyptian Football Association federation, reports Egyptian television. “You made every single Egyptian man and woman happy with a remarkable and impressive performance in Angola. The performance of the national team in Angola was more than a sports achievement. It was a sign of national commitment, that all Egyptians were united in celebrating.” Meanwhile, the Pharaohs will face England in an international friendly on March 3 in Wembley. The clash forms part of the English preparations for the South Africa 2010 World Cup. |
