NEWSPerhaps some teams did not take us seriously – Zambia coach Renard 02-11-2012
Zambia coach, Frenchman Herve Renard believes his side’s march into the final on Sunday perhaps owes in part to the fact that they are a side with no big names and this might have made some opponents to them lightly. “We have not had the huge pressure and expected to go far and that could have led some not to take us seriously. Zambia was not rated to be where we are in the pre-tournament predictions; maybe it is so because they don’t know much about our team.” Of course for me that helped a lot because we have been able to play our game and show what a quality side we are. We have picked up a lot of experience over the time and in the last Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Angola we were unlucky to lose in the quarter finals. This team had been together for a long time and has no big name players like other sides but the star is the team” said Renard Meanwhile Chipolopolo captain Christopher Katongo described the final on Sunday against Ivory Coast as a once in a lifetime chance for most of the players. ” It doesn’t happen every day that you get a chance to play in the final so we have worked hard to get here and we want to give our best shot. It is an emotional time to be playing in Libreville and the whole of Zambia wants us to make the heroes of 1993 proud and we want to play so well as to honour them. It will be a tough game for both teams and we all know Ivory Coast has big name players but as l have said before on the field it will be 11 against 11 so we will be ready for the match come Sunday” said Katongo |
