Zambia vs Ivory Coast reaction

Kennedy Mweene- Zambia goalkeeper
We came into this tournament believing we could win and after winning our first match we just knew it was destined for us to be African Champions. It is wonderful to be African champions and words cannot describe how happy we are. I hear that in Lusaka the city and the country has gone wild and l don’t even know if our plane will be able land tomorrow when we return due to the number of people at the airport. It was destined for us to win and l believe the hard work, unity and silk this squad possesses carried the day for us. The future is going to be tough for us now because , Zambia is now African champions and everybody wants to beat the champions , so with this success comes more challenges and we have to ready for this. For now we will enjoy this victory and go back to our clubs to carry on with our playing careers but no-one can take away what this team has achieved here in Gabon.

Collins Mbesuma – Zambian striker
It is great to win the African title and to be the generation of players who bring the title to Zambia. What a fantastic night for all Zambia and this team has been together for a long time and we knew we would succeed. Coach Renard said to us this is our victory and he motivated us to believe we will win. I also believe the departed Zambian team of 1993 was with us in this final match. When Drogba missed the penalty l just knew it that it was our night, the departed were making sure the Ivorians would not score. It’s amazing and just so wonderful and l am really happy. It has been a team effort and while many did not rate us at the start of the competition , we had belief in our abilities and knew we were potential winners.
