Tanzania coach Poulsen eyes home win
Taifa Stars coach, Jan Poulsen said his team will go all out to try and win their first leg of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mozambique in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday and stay in better position to progress to the next stage.
Stars hosts Mozambique at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam in a tricky opening duel as the 2013 Orange Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers get underway around the continent this midweek. “We played Mozambique a year and a half ago in a friendly match and we lost 2-0. We know Mozambique is a strong team but we are prepared for the game,” said Poulsen.
“I hope it will be an exciting match, so, we hope Tanzanians will turn up in numbers and cheer Taifa Stars,” added the Danish tactician.
Poulsen said his players were doing well in their preparations and he was looking forward to a thrilling encounter against the Mambas. “As you can see, I have called Vincent (Barnabas) to the squad and everything is going on very well”, he said. Barnabas, who plays for Tanzania Premier League side Mtibwa Sugar, was the latest player to get into to the slightly changed Taifa Stars’ squad.
The team will be without key striker Mbwana Samata who features for DR Congo giants TP Mazembe after the Dane opted against calling the player accusing him of ‘lacking national team commitment’. Stars will be playing Mozambique for the third time in the continental qualifiers, in which the former managed a draw in the first game and lost the second.
Stars, which was then under Brazilian coach, Marcio Maximo, forced a goalless draw with Mozambique in the latter’s backyard in the 2008 AFCON qualifiers but then suffered a 1-0 defeat at home in the return leg tie.
