NEWSLibya wins to go back on top of group C 03-29-2011
Libya emerged victorious against Comores and reclaimed top spot in group C of the 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifier. Their Monday night encounter against Comoros attracted some 35.000 fans at the March 26 stadium in Bamako where the game had been moved by CAF due to the conflict in the North African country. The game ended 3-0 in favour of the Libyans who take over the top position of the group one point ahead of Zambia after three matches. Libya’s Brazilian coach Marcos Castro Diaz Paqueta could not hide his satisfaction after the victory. « It is because of the fans who came out in numbers to support the team. We remain at the top and will continue to work hard to remain there and hopefully qualify for the finals». The match started well for the Libyans with Walid El Khatroushi opening the score in the 20th minute. Before that Comores missed a golden opportunity when Mohamed Mchangama failed to beat Libyan goalkeeper Samir Musbah for the opening goal. A minute’s silence was observed at the start of the match in honour of Libyans fatalities in the uprising. Marcos Paqueta’s boys continued their domination and two other goals were scored before the end of the encounter. Ahmed Wafa scored in the 68th minute and Jamal Abdallah Mohamed completed the scoring with a third goal. The victory leaves the Libyans on 7 points, one better than Zambia who had taken the helm of the group after their win over Mozambique 48 hours before Libya/Comores game. |
