Botswana national team is continuing with preparations for the 2012 Orange Africa Cup of Nations finals with a friendly match against neighbours , Zimbabwe on the 7th of January in Gaborone. The Zebras who will be making their debut at the Orange CAN 2012 finals were last in action on 22nd December when they beat Lesotho 3-0 in Rustenburg, South African.
The Zebras were set to leave for Qatar training camp after the Christmas break but the Botswana Football Association acting chief executive officer, Sonnyboy Sethibe was quoted saying the Zebras will no longer be camping in Qatar but will return to the Royal Bafokeng Complex in Rustenburg, South Africa.
Zebras coach Stanley Tshosane and his team will be in Rustenburg until 5th of January and the coach said even though the Qatar training camp has been called off, they are happy with the facilities on offer at the Rustenburg sports campus. According to Tshosane Royal Bafokeng has all the necessary facilities needed to prepare the team thoroughly Orange CAN 2012.
For this second camp , Tshosane is pleased to welcome  South African based players who are joining the rest of the squad for training as the  South African premier league will not be running during the Gabon and Equatorial Guinea tournament.
Meanwhile Botswana’s opponents for their next match, neighbours Zimbabwe will also be pleased to include in their ranks, South African based players when the teams clash in Gaborone. Zimbabwe Football Association said that they will be taking to Botswana the strongest team available. Zimbabwe Warriors coach, Norman Mapeza will be able to use South African based players but it looks like he may not have the services of Tinashe Nengomasha, Zhaimu Jambo, Lincoln Zvasiya and Thomas Sweswe , the Kaizer Chiefs players. Kaizer Chiefs have lined up a friendly against Ghana’s Blacks Stars scheduled for 12th January so it remains to be seen if Chiefs will release the quartet to play for their national team against Botswana.
Botswana kicks off its maiden Cup of Nations campaign with a match against Ghana in Group D to be played in Franceville on 24 January.
