NEWSGhana held by South Africa in pre-CAN friendly 01-16-2012
Ghana were held 1-1 by South Africa in a pre-Africa Cup of Nations friendly last Sunday in Rustenberg. The friendly encounter was to gauge the preparations of the Black Stars for the showpiece African football event scheduled for January 21 to February 12 in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic ringed changes to his squad giving an opportunity to almost every single player in their first friendly test in their build up to the tournament. Bafana Bafana took the lead on six minutes courtesy a Thami Sangweni speculative long range effort which beat Ghana goalie Adam Larsen Kwarasey. Five minutes later, Ghana drew level though Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Munatri who headed in a cross from Samuel Inkoom past Brillant Khuzwayo in post for the South Africans. Before recess, Khuzwayo pulled two spectacular saves from Jordan Ayew and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu to keep the score even. Meanwhile, the Ghanaians will wrap up their preparations with a friendly against South African side Platinum Stars on January 16, before departing for Franceville. The Black Stars are housed in Group D alongside debutants Botswana, Guinea and Mali. |
