NEWSYoung Pharaohs draw with Romania 02-22-2012
Egypt U-23 Olympic team played out a 1-1 draw with their Romanian counterparts in a friendly game at Al Nasr Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday part of the preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games football competition. Romania took the lead just after the break through Aliandro Dubree and Egypt’s Saleh Gomaa equalised from the spot five minutes from time. Dubree broke the deadlock after 48 minutes when he received a long ball that put him one on one with Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed Abu Gabal, and the Romanian was able to strike home. Egypt fought hard for the equaliser and had the lion share of possession. Ahmed Shokry's header and Shehab El Din Ahmed's shot were some of the scoring chances from which Egypt came close to scoring only for the Romanian keeper to shut out the Egyptians. In the 85th minute Ahmed Sherweeda was pulled down in the penalty area up stepped Saleh Gomaa who made no mistake with the spot-kick. After the game Egypt's manager Hany Ramzy expressed his satisfaction with his team's performance coming against the current situation in the country where the football league is on an indefinite halt after the tragic deaths during a match in Port Said at the beginning of the month. Ramzy welcomed the opportunity to play the match which he said helped him with preparing his squad for the Olympic competition. Romania game marked the Young Pharaohs’ first friendly during their preparations for London 2012. Egypt is expected to face Uzbekistan in another friendly game on Friday before heading to Spain to face that country’s Olympic team. |
