Home wins see trio advance in FIFA U-17 Women’s qualifiers

Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa comfortably zoomed into the final round of the continental qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, Azerbaijan 2012.
 
The trio remained impregnable at their backyard in the second leg matches over the weekend as they dispatched off their opponents to remain in contention for one of the three slots allotted Africa.
 
In Accra on Sunday, Ghana was too strong for their counterparts from Cameroon winning 4-0 in a one-sided game. The Black Maidens led 1-0 at half time courtesy Beatrice Sesu’s opener on the quarter-hour mark. Second half efforts from Ellen Coleman, Mary Essiful and Jane Ayieyam sealed victory. The Ghanaians advanced 5-0 on aggregate.
 
The Maidens are due to face South Africa, who hammered fellows Namibia 5-0 in Johannesburg. Striker Mosili Mahhoili scored a brace before one each from Van Reyneveldlt, Nomvula Kgoale and Amanda November ensured the South Africans inched through 6-1 on aggregate.
 
Elsewhere in Abeokuta, the Flamingoes of Nigeria scaled over Kenya with a 3-0 win to advance 5-0 on aggregate. A brace from Badiahwotexxy Kesigna and other from Yetunde Oluwatosin was enough for the Nigerians. The Flamingoes will battle Zambia at the next round.
 
The final tournament will be staged in Azerbaijan from 22 September to 13 October, 2012.
