Flamingoes qualify for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria’s Flamingoes became the first African team to qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, Trinidad and Tobago 2010, with a 2-1 victory over their South African counterparts on Saturday in Klerksdorp.
The result ensured the Flamingoes claimed their ticket for the second edition of the biennial championship 7-1 on aggregate after a 5-0 win from the leg held in Abeokuta two weeks ago.
Charity Adule and Ugochi Oparanozie, scorer of four goals in the first leg were on target for the Nigerians whilst the Bantwana grabbed a consolation in the closing stages of the game.
The Flamingoes will be making their second appearance at the female cadet championship after debuting at the maiden edition held in New Zealand in 2008.
Tunisia will face Ghana’s Black Maidens in the other qualifier. The Ghanaians won the first leg 7-0.
 Meanwhile, the losers will square-off in a playoff to determine the continent’s final slot for the global championship.
 The tournament will be staged in Trinidad and Tobago from September 5 – 25, 2010.
