South African U-20 coach, Serame Letsoaka has announced a preliminary 30-man squad for the FIFA U-20 World Cup slated for Egypt from 24 September to 17 October.

In picking his players, Letsoaka has gone for experience with many of the Amajita players campaigning in the ABSA Premiership. Most teams are represented with Supersport United producing five players, Ajax Cape Town four, Orlando Pirates three while Kaizer Chiefs have two. Overseas clubs Feyernoord FC of Holland and Helsingborg FC of Denmark are also represented.

Among the players making the grade so far are Thela Ngobeni and Mandla Masango of Chiefs, Andile Jali of Pirates, Sameeg Doutie and Thulani Serero of Ajax Cape Town, Masibusane Zongo, Thulane Ngcepe and George Malaleke, all of SuperSport United and Kermit Erasmus of Feyenoord.

“I just want to say congratulations to the 30 players, but what I would urge them to do is to continue to work even harder at their respective teams. It's been a tough assignment to complete the list but I have been assisted by the principle of keeping a balance in the team,” Letsoaka told the official website of the South African Football Association (SAFA).

The 30-man squad will be trimmed down to 21 on September 13.

Amajita have gone through a rigorous preparation phase where they visited Ghana, Uruguay, as well as South Korea and Bulgaria to ready themselves for the upcoming tournament. In the process they played the likes of Japan, Egypt, Hungary and Angola.

South Africa are housed in Group F alongside United Arab Emirates, Honduras and Hungary for the global championship.
