Uganda’s She Hippos qualified for the second round of the African qualifiers for next year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Germany 2010 after beating hosts Rwanda 1-0 in Kigali on Saturday evening at the Nyamirambo stadium.
The win gave the Uganda team a 3-1 aggregate after winning the first leg 2-1 two weeks ago in Kampala. Hadijja Namalwa silenced the home fans with a clinical finish in the 88th minute.
Rwanda’s Saida Ntagisanimana missed two glorious chances in the first half when both her headed attempts failed to find the target. Coach Andreas Spier blamed his striking department for the loss saying they wasted so many scoring opportunities.
Uganda now join Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Botswana, Congo, Egypt, Ghana, South Africa, Tunisia, Zambia and Zimbabwe who drew a bye at the preliminaries. Uganda’s She Hippos will battle Zambia in the second round of the qualifying round.
