NEWSFalconets rout Basetsana to reach World Cup 03-01-2010
Nigeria’s Falconets qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a 7-0 spanking over their South African counterparts on Sunday in the second leg final round qualifier. The result ensured the Falconets qualified 12-3 on aggregate, and join Ghana’s Black Princesses for the Germany bound tournament. The Nigerians began the goal harvest as early as the first minute through Ebere Orji and doubled the lead minutes later whilst Glory Oroka grabbed a brace. Gloria Ofoegbu, Ugochi Oparanozie and Sunday Uchechi were also on target for the Falconets as they reached their fifth finals of the global championship. The Falconets, thus scored 22 goals in only two matches in the qualifiers against Zimbabwe and South Africa, with Uchechi netting six goals and Orji, five. The final tournament is slated for Germany from July 13 to August 1, 2010. Nigeria remains the only African side not to have missed out on the biennial championship since its inception in 2002. |
