Rwanda, Cameroon stalemate opens Group A
Hosts Rwanda and Cameroon settled for a one all draw in the final Group A fixture of day two at the ongoing 16th African Youth Championship.
The result makes the group open and keeps the Junior Wasps of Rwanda, Indomitable Cubs of Cameroon and Ghana's Black Satellites all in contention for a ticket to the next round.
Ghana leads the pack on four points, same as Rwanda with Cameroon and Mali following in that order with two points and zero point respectively.
Cheered on by a packed crowd, the host were counting on the maximum points to seal their qualification to the next stage, but the results means they have to wait till the final day to know their fate.
The Cameroonians stunned the hosts with the opener on 35 minutes through Brice Owona against the run of play.
Yusuf Ndayishimiye restored parity for the Junior Wasps through a header just before half time.
Both teams increased their momentum in search of the winner in the second half, yet it remained elusive.
On Saturday, Ghana will play Rwanda whilst Cameroon engages Mali.
The first and second placed teams will advance to the next stage as well as automatic qualification to the World Championship.
