NEWSCAN U20 qualifiers enter the second round 05-07-2012
The majority of the teams that took a lead into the second leg ties in the Orange African Youth Championship first round qualifiers sailed through into the second round at the weekend. Sierra Leone, Rwanda and Niger won their homes games to complete a double over their opponents while Morocco, Uganda and Zimbabwe held out for away draws. The only team to carry a first leg lead that lost was Tanzania, beaten 2-1 in Khartoum but , thanks to a 3-1 win in Dar es Salam , the Young Taifa Stars march into the second round. The Sudanese opened the scoring early in the match through Yousif Mohamed Abdelrahman but Tanzanians responded immediately with Thomas Ulimwengu getting the equaliser. A late penalty from Ahmed Nasr was not enough for Sudan. It was a similar story in Molepolole in Botswana when visiting Zimbabwe conceded an early goal from Keorapetse Seloso, but the Young Warriors rallied up and found an equaliser through Knox Mutizwa. The draw was not satisfactory for Zimbabwe coach Jairos Tapera who said after the match, "We did not play our best football. With a bit of luck we could have won, especially if we had put away the numerous opportunities that we created after halftime. I think I need to strengthen the midfielder and defence. " Sierra Leoneans who started the home match with a 3-2 win from the first leg fell behind when Chad opened the scoring in Freetown in the 9th minute through striker Rodrigo Casimir Ninga. The visitors led 1-0 at halftime, but the "Shooting Stars" scored two second-half goals through Brima Jalloh and Captain Gibril Fofanah to complete a a double win over Chad. Libya-Tunisia match will be held in Khartoum on Friday, May 11th. The Tunisians are carrying a 3-2 lead going into this match.
