Egypt and Mali coaches reaction to the third place match
05-01-2011

The young Pharaohs of Egypt beat the Eaglets of Mali 1-0 to scoop the third place of CAF Orange African Youth Championship.
Both teams had already secured a place in the 2011 FIFA WC in Columbia.

Cafonline had a chat with both teams and this is what Sekou Diallo coach of Mali had to say.

Cafonline:  What analysis do you make of your team at the end of this tournament?
We came here with two objectives which were to qualify for the World cup and to win the cup. We have achieved that. It is unfortunate that we could not play the final.

Cafonline: What is your analysis of today’s game?

SD:  I would like to congratulate Egypt for the good game. They played well and my boys too, although at a point especially after the goal, they found it hard to increase momentum. Now we have to go home,  rest and see what to do about the World cup.

Cafonline: Talking about the World Cup,  what are your plans?

SD: We will take a week rest and then go back to the drawing board to see which changes we can bring to the team. By this way, we can be well prepared too at the World Cup level.

Egypt’s boss, the luckier of the two also expressed his opinion to Cafonline.

Cafonline: You were beaten by Mali in the group stage, have you achieved your revenge?

DS: In football there is no revenge, only football. If it is what you call it, yes we have beaten Mali as well.

Cafonline: What analysis do you make of your team at the end of this tournament?

DS: We are happy because we qualified for the World cup and also won the bronze medal. For me this is a positive result.

Cafonline: How is the Egyptian team gearing up for the WC?

DS: We spent 21 days here and when we go home I will first of all rest for two weeks, then we have a game in France, two games in Uruguay and two games in Columbia prior to the start of the tournament.
