Tunisian giants, Etoile du Sahel have appointed Lofti Rhim as Head Coach. The 41-year old Tunisian signed a one-year contract on Wednesday and replaces Franco-German Gernot Rohr, sacked at the end of the season for poor performance.

A statement on the club’s website said Rhim, not a big name in African coaching circles, will resume his new role on June 4.

"We have been following the works of Rhim with U.S. Monastir in the past two years and believe in his capabilities, "said Moez Idriss, president of the club.

Rhim, will be expected to lead the Sousse-based side, the only surviving North African club in this year’s CAF Champions League to an impressive spell in the competition they won two years ago.

Formerly with US Monastir, Rhim also guided Al Mouharrak of Bahrain to league success in 2001 and the double two years later.

Etoile placed third after the just ended Tunisian League, behind winners Esperance and Club Africain, and will play in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Meanwhile, the Sousse-based club have named former Tunisia international Kaïs Ghodhbane as Assistant trainer.

Ghodhbane, one of the famous players of his generation worked with Rhim during the latter’s tenure at United Arab Emirates club, Bani Yas.
