Dynamos, Interclube and Black Leopards begin quest to bring Cup to Southern Africa

Zimbabwe club side Dynamos entertains Angolan side Interclube at the weekend in the second quarter final qualifier of the Orange CAF Confederation Cup match with both teams boasted by wins in their local league games ahead of their tie in Harare.

Dynamos needed a late winner from Guthrie Zhokinyi to beat Gunners 2-1 while in Luanda goals by Joel and Castro saw Interclube beat Progresso do Sambizanga 2-0.

Dynamos dropped to the second tier CAF competition after losing out to reigning Champions League champions, Esperance of Tunisia. Interclube reached the semi-finals of the same competition last year and were only denied playing in the final by a goal scored in the 7^th minute of stoppage time by MAS of Morocco, who went on to win the Cup .

The Angolans have so far lost both times on their travels only to pull through courtesy of solid home performance.

The winners of the two leg tie will make the Confederation Cup mini-league and have a chance to win the Cup which no side from either Zimbabwe or Angola has won before.

Meanwhile Dynamos is set to welcome back from injury George Magariro, Ocean Mushure and Milton Makopa . The Harare side also has Zambian Arthur Kaseloki available for selection. Dynamos assistant coach Tonderai Ndiraya‘s injury worries include striker Mutuma. Mutuma’s progress is being monitored as he struggles with a knock.

Dynamos will be hoping to have Denver Mukamba back from South Africa where he was on trials and chief striker Takesure Chinyama who was also in South Africa for a medical test at what is to be his new club side, Orlando Pirates.

Another Southern African side chasing a place in the mini-league of the competition is South Africa’s Black Leopards who head to Sudan to face Al Merriekh in the first leg tie. Leopards affectionately known as “Lidoda Duvha” head to Omdurman minus star striker Kingston Nkhatha. The Zimbabwean whose goals have catapulted Leopards to this stage recently signed for Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and he has not been available at training to be considered for selection. Nkhatha’s contract with Black Leopards ends on Sunday.Leopards are also waiting to see if Nigerian striker Joshua Obaje will be able to join them on time after being stuck in his homeland due to some civil unrest. Leopards will however look up to inspirational captain, Mongezi Bobe on their trip to Sudan.
