NEWSSewe Sport: « Our Opponent Spurs Us » 03-18-2010
Sewe Sport of San Pedro receives Stade Malien on Saturday in the away match of the sixteenth final of the Orange Confederation Cup. Just a few hours to this important encounter, the Ivorian Coach, Norbert Saraka, explains the intricacies of the match and the motivation of his team. You will be receiving Stade Malien on Saturday, is Sewe Sport ready? “In this type of competition, no team is ever 100% ready. We will pursue our preparation until the day of the match. We could be technically ready but there are the unexpected, either injuries or one incident or the other. One has to ward off every eventuality and that is what we are doing daily”. On what aspect do you focus more during this preparation? “First, on the physical aspect because we know Stade Malien is very athletic. In this domain we want to measure up with our opponent. We are also working on the offensive. This match would play on details. It would be imperative for us to score goals”. Does the fact that Stade Malien is the defending champion pose any psychological problem to the team? “Knowing that we are meeting the champion is a motivating and exciting factor for us. If we had to only meet modest teams, we will not grow. The fact that we are meeting a team of this magnitude helps us to be serious in our training. We are not afraid. Meeting the champion is an extra motivation”. Have you put in place a special plan on how to confront Stade Malien? “We are training normally as we are used to doing. We are aware of the worth of our rival and we are doing all to be at our best. If we have to go through this phase, we have to win at home without conceding a goal”. You qualified in the first round thanks to an away goal, but you are lost in the championship. Where is Sewe actually? “The National championship and the African competition are two different things. They don’t have the same motivating force. The local championship has its realities while the continental competition has its own. We will all get to work to put up a good show”. What is your objective in this match? “We want to win this match without conceding a goal as I indicated earlier. The return match to be played in Mali will not be at all easy. Last year, our adversary was beaten only once out of the seven matches it played at home. It is for us to make the difference at home”. Are you confident ? « I am by nature optimistic. I have confidence in my players and I believe we can get a good result if they stick to advice. Also, if they remain as motivated as they are now, there is no reason for us not to win”. |
