St Eloi Lupopo edge Sofapaka 2-1 in the first leg encounter
DR Congo outfit St Eloi Lupopo recorded a narrow 2-1 win over Kenyan side Sofapaka in the Orange CAF Confederations Cup quarter final first leg match at home. Lupopo started off purposefully and took the lead in the 21stminute and by the 41st minute the home side was cruising in Lubumbashi after a second goal.
It looked a healthy lead to take to Kenya for St Eloi Lupopo as the minutes ticked away. Sofapaka laboured all afternoon without much to show for their work until the 89th minute when Musa Mudde’s shot was too hot for the Lupopo keeper who could only parry it back into play to a grateful Humphery Mieno who scored an important away goal ahead of the second leg in two weeks time.
Sofapaka club president Elly Kalekwa said after the match "We played a very tactical game and I am more than happy with the minimal score-line. I am very optimistic that we will overturn the score line in the second leg to be played in Nairobi."
