We feel we can beat any side in Africa now – Ugandan striker Massa
06-17-2012

He has come under fire for not scoring enough times  for the Cranes since 2005 when he made his debut. The goal against Congo Brazzaville was only his 9th in 28 appearances but Geoffrey Massa could not his delight when Cafonline .com caught up with him after the match.

Cafonline.com:  How do you describe the match?

Massa:  It was a good match, we played as a team, calm well prepared and I believe since we have been in the camp for long period playing Angola and Senegal in the process everybody was ready.  This was the most important match of the three. We knew we needed to score two goals to advance  we managed to score four.

Cafonline.com:  This was one of (Cranes)’ best performances in the last five years.  Every player was positive. What really happened?

Massa:  It my opinion, the way l saw fellow players in training they were more united and focused than in the past. Every player wants to play and do what is required of him on the pitch. Today’s  match we played as a team that is why we have achieved a good result.

Cafonline.com:  What about your performance today which you capped with a fine goal. What can you tell us about that?

Massa:  I praise God for all that. I have been a regular starter for the national team for the past four to five years, in the last two I missed the Angola match because of an injury from my club, I recovered slowly, came on as a substitute against Senegal winning a penalty for our equaliser. This time round I knew I would start. I missed the first leg in Port Noire but my teammates told me their defenders are not that good, they are slow so I came with that in mind that if I put pressure on them they will crack. We needed to win this match which we did.

Cafonline.com:  What does you future hold for the Cranes and you as an individual?

Massa:  We still have one more round to make to the finals; we don’t know which of the teams that played in Gabon/ Equatorial Guinea we are going to meet. I am confident any team they give us we are going to break the jinx. Am very confident we are going to the finals next year. We feel we can beat any team in Africa if we stay strong and play as a team as we are currently doing.
