CAF Super Cup: Mazembe, FUS Rabat faceoff on Jan. 29

Continental kings TP Mazembe of DR Congo will face FUS Rabat of Morocco on Saturday, January 29, 2011 for the Orange CAF Super Cup in Lubumbashi, DR Congo.

The annual one-off match pits the winners’ of the Orange CAF Champions League and Orange CAF Confederation Cup together.


Mazembe retained the premier continental club after beating Tunisia’s Esperance 6-1 on aggregate whilst FUS Rabat toppled CS Sfaxien of Tunisia 3-2 on aggregate in the second-tier competition.


It would be the second successive time that Mazembe will be playing host to the annual one-off match, after beating Stade Malien of Mali 2-0 in the last edition early this year, and also the first time teams from the two countries are meeting in the annual one-off match incepted in 1993.


Egyptian giants Ahly have won the CAF Super Cup the most times – 4 times, one more than city rivals Zamalek. Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel and Enyimba FC of Nigeria have both won it twice whilst Hearts of Oak (Ghana), Raja Casablanca (Morocco), ASEC Mimosas (Cote d’Ivoire). Orlando Pirates (South Africa), Africa Sports (Cote d’Ivoire), Esperance (Tunisia) and TP Mazembe (DR Congo) have each emerged winners once.
