Kenya’s lethal striker Dennis Oliech is confident that the country will complete a double over Seychelles when the two sides clash again in the return leg match of the World Cup qualifying matches at Nyayo National Stadium on Tuesday.
The Auxerre hit man, who notched a double against Seychelles in Kenya’s 3-0 victory in Mahe last Friday, is very hopefully that the job to earn Kenya the ticket to the World Cup qualifying group stage proper will be sealed tomorrow.
Oliech spoke to cafonline.com.
Cafonline.com: You had promised to score goals in Seychelles and did exactly that with a brace. What is your take now on Tuesday’s match?
Oliech: The tough job was completed in Seychelles and what is remaining now is to secure our place in the qualifier’s group stage. We have the game in our hands now because we won convincingly in Seychelles and were the better team throughout the encounter. Our main target now is to qualify and then start focusing on our opponents in the Group stage. We can’t afford to lose now. We have the advantage starting from the away goals we are carrying into the match and also playing in front of our own fans. We want to qualify in style.
Cafonline.com: What kind of a match should we expect from Kenya?
Oliech: We will simply play our game. We love attacking and that is something we can’t stop. We will be going for goals because anything can happen in football. We don’t want to underrate Seychelles because they are a formidable side, who can cause an upset if the chance arises. We will remain focused and our main aim is to complete the good job we started in Seychelles three days ago.
Cafonline: Two goals already in this year’s World Cup qualifiers. What should Kenyans expect from you?
Oliech: My work is to score goals and also help my team do well. I will continue to bang in goals. We owe Kenyans a lot because we are yet to qualify for the World Cup finals. We want to do it for them and that is why we want to take these qualifiers seriously. We now have the opportunity to reach the group stage proper and can’t afford to throw the chance away.
Cafonline.com: Are you under pressure skippering the Kenya team?
Oliech: No…I don’t think so. Every player in the world would like to wear the captain’s armband and it is a duty I have always dedicated myself to. I have my work cut out because most of the players in our squad are professionals who understand what is required in and off the pitch. They (players) always make my work easier and I thank them for that. We are determined to do Kenyans proud and time is now to deliver.
Cafonline.com: How do you rate the Seychelles team?
Oliech: Like I said before, they are a formidable side who can cause an upset. They troubled as a lot in the first leg match and I know they will be playing like a wounded lion on Tuesday. We must keep our focus and concentrate on doing the job at hand.
Cafonline.com. What is your message to Kenya fans?
Oliech: I want to urge fans to turn out in large numbers and see us through. We need their support because we can’t achieve good results without them. I know the game will be played on Tuesday when others will be at work but we want to request them to come in numbers and rally behind us. We promise we are not going to let them down.
