In a letter dated 16 February 2016 signed by CAF Secretary General, Hicham El Amrani addressed to the president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, confirmed Nigeria as host of the 2nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations of Beach Soccer.

“Following the receipt of the Government guarantee through the letter dated January 29th 2016 of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I have the pleasure to inform you that the CAF Executive Committee at its meeting dated February 5th 2016 in Kigali, Rwanda, has designated Nigeria as host of the said event.

“CAF is also delighted to confirm your approval to switch the event from 2017 to late 2016 (December – exact dates to be mutually confirmed).

“Considering indeed that the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup might be held early 2017, and that CAF in odd years do organize three major events back to back, namely the Africa Cup of Nations followed by the U20 and U17 Cup of Nations from January to April 2017, the CAF Executive Committee decided to ease the overall calendar of events by organizing the Beach Soccer Cup of Nations every even years from now on,” the letter read.

Madagascar were crowned champions of the maiden edition held last April in Seychelles.
