A ground-breaking course for Promising Referees across the continent saw the light of day with Niger hosting the maiden pilot project from 11-16 April 2016 in the capital, Niamey.

The course in Niger is the first of six to be held in the year across the geographical zones as part of efforts towards improving the standard of officiating on the continent.

The objective of the six-day course designed for referees below 30-years is to aid the recruitment of young referees, training and development, as well as getting them ready for immediate and future assignments.

The participants were taken through practical and theoretical sessions with topics such as Laws of the Games, Role of Referees and Assistant Referees, Positioning and Movement, Running Technics, Video Analysis of Fouls amongst others discussed under the supervision of CAF Assistant Referees’ Manager, Athanase Nkubito.

Thirty (30) match officials, consisting 14 Referees and 16 Assistant Referees including three females took part in the six-day course.

Following the success of Niger (West B), Senegal will host for the West A zone from 18-22 May 2016 and Gabon for the Central Zone from 20-25 June 2016. The Central-East Zone will have its turn from 4-8 July 2016 with Ethiopia as host and Mauritius hosting for the Southern zone from 25-29 July 2016.
