Tough test await Mauritius in Seychelles

Mauritius are expecting a tough encounter against Seychelles away in Mahé in the second leg of the Southern Zone First Round clash of the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya 2018 qualifiers on Saturday.

The Mauritians registered a narrow 2-1 win in the first leg last week at the Anjalay Stadium in Belle Vue, and arrived in Seychelles last Tuesday in a confident mood for the return leg.

Head Coach, Joe Tshupula, tells CAFOnline.com that his charges are poised for the challenge against their fellow islanders, who handed them scary moments at their backyard.

“They (Seychelles) made life difficult for my team in our home fixture. They were very competitive so we expect another tough battle especially as they will be in front of their home fans. We have to give our maximum if we want to attain our objective of moving to the next stage,” said Tshupula moments after his team’s arrival at the Seychelles International Airport.

Disappointed with the crucial away goal scored by the Seychellois, the trainer has cautioned his players to be wary since it could play a decisive role in the weekend’s clash.

“We have to remain focused throughout the match. We are not here in search of a draw which may prove costly, and so I want my team to go for a win.

“It is important that my players give their maximum to get a victory against such a good opponent,” the Mauritian trainer said.

“We have a slim advantage so we have to play well and aim for a good performance against an opponent who are capable of causing us problems if we are not fully concentrated. We hope to progress to the next stage,” claimed coach Tshupula who has been at the helm of this Mauritian squad since 2015.

The other regional fixture will see Malawi hosting Madagascar in Lilongwe whilst South Sudan looks set to complete a double over Somalia in Juba in the Central-East Zone qualifiers.

Meanwhile, the final tournament is scheduled for 12 January to 4 February 2018 in Kenya.
