Toure: We are confident of bouncing back

Toure: We are confident of bouncing back

Cote d’Ivoire coach Clementine Toure is upbeat her team will bounce back from their false start at the ongoing TN Mobile 9th African Women Championship Namibia 2014.

‘Les Elephantes’ succumbed to a 4-2 loss to fellow West Africans, the Super Falcons of Nigeria in their Group A opener on Saturday, but Toure insists all is not lost.

The Ivorians matched the Nigerians squarely before finally giving in the closing stages, with the experience of the latter making the difference.

“We worked collectively, but there were some individual errors in the first half and we are going to work on that,” she said.

Defender Mariam Diakite Toure scored an own goal which gave the Nigerians a 2-1 lead early in the second half setting the tone for victory and the Ivorian trainer has described the incident as one of their low points.

“It was unfortunate and the defence is one area we will have to look at before our next game.

“We are very confident of winning our next two matches (against Namibia and Zambia). Our objective is to make the second stage and to obtain this goal, it’s important as a team to win our next two games.”

The Ivorian trainer is also hoping her two key foreign-based players, Esmei Amari (WAC Casablanca, Morocco) and Estelle Marie Josee Nahi (WFC Zvezda, Russian) will team up with the team before their next game against hosts Namibia on Tuesday, 14 October 2014 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.

“We don’t have a full team yet and we are hoping our foreign-based players will be released by their clubs to join us.

“The players are motivated and hopefully we will succeed in our next two games.”

The Ivorians are without a point, same as Zambia, who lost 2-0 to hosts Namibia in the opening match of the tournament.
