DR Congo: Linafoot takes up face lift
This year 28 clubs will participate in the DR Congo elite division, eight more than the previous season.
The teams were divided into three groups; Kinshasa, Lubumbashi and Goma. The teams will be grouped based on the proximity of the geographical locations; Kinshasa and Lubumbashi will each have 10 clubs, while Goma will have eight.
The teams will engage each other at one venue on home and away basis after which eight teams will qualify to the playoff phase; the top three each from the Kinshasa and Lubumbashi groups and the top two from Goma.
The eight teams will then lock horns in away and return legs, each one playing at their home grounds. The other 20 clubs will be involved in the Coupe du Congo. The new-look championship is expected to commence on 18 September 2015.
Horoya claims 13th league crown
Horoya AC have been crowned champions of the Guinea elite division for the 13th time.
The capital-based club finished the league on 47 points, seven more than city rivals, Kaloum Stars to clinch their fourth title in five years.
Horoya’s point tally include 14 victories, five draws and three defeats, finishing the 12-club league as the top scoring side with 42 goals, whilst Kaloum had the best defence after letting in 12 goals in 22 matches. In total, 265 goals were recorded during the season. Soumba FC attacker, Kilé Bangoura netted 13 goals to finish top scorer.
Meanwhile, FC Séquence of Dixinn and Santoba FC, who finished the bottom two have been relegated to second division, and would be replaced next season by ASFAG and Flamme Olympique.
Egypt: Ahly in new record
Al Ahly beat El Gouna 13-0 at the 1/8 th final of the Egyptian Cup last Friday to set a record of the biggest win in an official match in the North African country.
New recruited Ghanaian striker John Antwi made an impressive debut by registering four goals. Gabonese Malick Evouna, who also joined from Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco scored once.
But the most awaited moment was the entrance of a very young player for Goouna. His name, Zeyad El Shefeify, is to be noted down on all tablets. He is just 14!
Congo: Diable Noirs wins Coupe du Congo
Diables Noirs beat rivals AC Leopards by a lone goal to the 30th edition of the Coupe du Congo last Friday (14 August 2015) in Ouesso, located in the northern part of Congo.
Odile Ombion scored the only goal of the game in the 45th minute to hand Diables Noirs their seventh triumph in the annual knockout competition and a ticket to next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
The match was a real family matter between the two sides. This was already the posters of the 2011, 2012 and 2013 finals. AC Léopards won the first and third, whilst Diables Noirs won in between, each time with the same score as this year (1-0).
Last year, Diables Noirs defeated city rivals CARA to win the Congolese version of the FA Cup competition.
