Cote d’Ivoire boosted their preparations for the TN Mobile 9th African Women Championship Namibia 2004 with a 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies 2-1 on Wednesday in Johannesburg.

‘Les Elephantes’ scored twice in the first half through Essoh Nadege (2nd minute) and Koko Angel (10th minute) before Marta Mutola grabbed a consolation for the South African club in the closing stages of the game.

It is the second victory for the Ivorians, who are holding a training camp in South Africa, after a 4-0 victory over the University of Johannesburg Women’s team.

“This friendly match was a good test for us, since we played against the champion of the South African league. It's important for us as we prepare for the African Women Championship.

“We ran our workforce and we believe we have seen good things. The result does not matter. We also looked at the behaviour of the players. We will continue to work because there are still some things to fix,” head coach Clementine Toure was quoted by the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) website.

Earlier, ‘Les Elephantes’ lost 2-1 to the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in their first test game since their training camp in Southern Africa.

The Ivorians will wrap up their preparations with their final test match on Sunday, 5 October 2014 against a yet-to-be confirmed opponent before leaving for Namibia two days later.

Cote d’Ivoire are housed in Group A with hosts Namibia, Nigeria and Zambia. ‘Les Elephantes’ will open their campaign against six-time winners, Nigeria on 11 October, play hosts Namibia three days later before coming up against Zambia on 17 October.

The three top finishers at the tournament will represent the continent at the 2015 FIFA women’s World Cup in Canada.
