AFCON 2019/2021: Inspectors get down to work in Cameroon

After a five day inspection visit to Algeria, the special team put together by CAF to inspect facilities for the bidding countries of the 2019/2021 Africa Nations Cup, Tuesday arrived Yaoundé the Cameroonian capital.Despite the 2.30 am early morning touch down at the Nsimalem Airport; a welcome party that included sports minister Adoum Garoua, FECAFOOT Normalization President Professor Joseph Owona, FECAFOOT Secretary General Tombi Sidiki, a dancing troupe and a host of others were on hand to accord the team a warm welcome.Later in the day, the team made up of Amadou Diakite (Mali) Adoum Jibrine (Chad) Paul Bassey (Nigeria) and AFCON and CHAN manager Amr Fahmy sat through a presentation attended by six serving ministers where the Cameroun authorities said they intended to host the Nations Cup in the cities of Yaoundé, Douala, Garoua, Baffoussam and Limbe/Buea after a 42 year wait.On Tuesday, the Yaounde axis was completed with the inspection of the legendary Stade Omnisports and adjoining training pitches, the Hilton and Mont Febe hotels, the specialist Essos hospital and the CAF Centre of Excellence.On Wednesday, the team visits Garoua, then Baffoussam, Limbe/Buea and Douala before rounding up the trip in Yaounde on Saturday May 17.It will be recalled that the Inspection team has already visited Guinea and Cote D'ivoire. They will round up with Zambia and Congo DR in July before submitting their report that will guide the CAF Executive Committee in taking the decision in September.Morocco is hosting the Nations Cup next year, while Libya is scheduled to for 2017.
