The TOTAL Africa Cup of Nations Gabon 2017 is gradually gathering momentum with the hosting of the Teams Workshop on Tuesday, 18 October 2016 in Libreville.
The one-day event, which heralds the official draw of the final tournament of the 31st edition of the continental showpiece event, was attended by heads of delegation, coaches and other administrative officials of the 16 qualified teams for next year’s final tournament scheduled for 14 January to 5 February 2017 in the Gabonese cities of Libreville, Franceville, Oyem and Port Gentil.
The workshop provided a platform for the 16 qualified teams to discuss organisational and logistical arrangements for the tournament including Accommodation, Training Sites, Security, Transportation, Marketing and Media amongst others.
Following the workshop, Group A will be based in the Gabonese capital, Libreville, Group B in Franceville, Group C in Oyem with Port Gentil hosting the teams in Group D. Whilst host Gabon and holders are Cote d’Ivoire are certain to be Libreville and Oyem respectively, Ghana and Algeria, the other tops seeds in Pot 1 will learn their fate on Wednesday, during the draw, with the positions B1 or D1.
There was also the balloting for the potential Hotels for the participating in view of the outcome of the draw in 24-hours.
In a related development, the four stadia that will host the matches during the three-week tournament are Stade de l’Amitié – Libreville, Stade de Franceville – Franceville, Stade d’Oyem – Oyem and Stade de Port-Gentil – Port Gentil.
The opening and final matches will be held at the Stade de l’Amitié in Libreville, whilst Stade de Port-Gentil hosts the third place match. The quarter-finals will be played in each of the four venues with the semis taking place in Libreville and Franceville.
Meanwhile, preparations for the draw has reached fever pitch with the arrival of the representatives of the qualified teams.
The ceremony will kick start at 18H30 local time (17H30 GMT) and will be streamed live on the CAF TV via the CAF website.
