Plateau United hoping to make amends against USMA

Smarting from their ouster from the Total CAF Champions League following a 4-3 aggregate loss to Etoile du Sahel,  Plateau United are desirous of better outing in the Total CAF Confederation Cup.

On Saturday, the Nigeria champions host USM Alger in the play-off first leg tie at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.

“We were just unlucky against Etoile du Sahel by not getting a second goal that could have kept us in the CAF Champions League,” Kennedy Boboye, coach of Plateau United told CAFOnline.com.

“All we needed was to attack more, so that we can get at least one more goal but we were unlucky; we have taken lessons from this and we are going to fight all the way in the CAF Confederation Cup.”

Though Plateau United will yet again be playing away from their traditional ground in Jos, captain Elisha Golbe is positive about playing in Lagos, adding that they must grind a good result ahead of the reverse fixture.

“We have learned a lot playing earlier in the CAF Champions League,” stated the 25-year-old whose name, Golbe literally means 'live in peace without chaos with others'.

“There is not too much difference between playing in Kano and Lagos because both grounds have artificial turfs; all we need is massive support from the fans.

“Lagos will be like a home to us because we have a lot of our supporters here and we are not only representing Plateau state but Nigeria and I'm sure of maximum support.”

Golbe admits the Algerian visitors will be tough to beat hence Plateau United must gird their loins to earn a big margin win at their adopted home.

“We have been working hard in training to see that we come out smoking against USMA in Lagos. We have to remain focus and make sure we get many goals at home because that is the only thing that can give us an edge over USMA,” he added.

Similarly, defender Peter Suswam added his voice to the Plateau United cause: “we just have to work harder than before to ensure we beat USMA well in Lagos and that would give us an advantage ahead of the second leg”.
