Zambia striker, Babra Banda, put a woman-of-the-match performance, scoring a brace and assisting one the visitors came from behind to hold Tanzania to a 3-3 draw on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam.
Striker Asha Rashid of Tanzania was also on fire for the homers thanks to her two goals but it was Banda who stole the show after having a say in all three goals of her side in the First Round first leg.
The hosts started the game on a high, building attack on the flanks before Stumai Abdallah headed Asha’s cross from the right on the first minute to give Twiga Stars the lead.
Mwanahamis Omary missed a clear chance two minutes later before Shepolopolo took charge of the game.
Banda made the first trial for the visitors on the 16 minute but Twiga golie, Fatma Omary was up to the task with a calm save.
Asha doubled Tanzania’s lead on 22 minutes converting Amina Ally’s cross from the right.
Banda halved the deficit for the Shepolopolo in the 25 minute as Tanzania went into the interval 2-1 up.
The Zambians started the second half on a good note and Misouzi Zulu scored the equalizer in the opening minute.
However, their joy couldn’t last long after Asha netted the third for Tanzania just a minute later from a long range shot.
The Shepolopolo levelled on 78 minutes courtesy Banda to douse the hopes of the homers, and set the stage for a thrilling encounter in the reverse on Sunday in Lusaka.
Asha Rashid (Captain, Tanzania)
We scored three goals but we didn’t work too hard to defend them. Every time we scored, we thought it was over and they got a space to equalize. I believe that our technical bench saw what went wrong today and we will work to improve our strength for the return leg. In Zambia it will be a must win game.
Babra Banda (Captain, Zambia)
Tanzania is a good team; they played well today and scored very early in the game. We had to push them so that we can equalize and things worked well for us. In Zambia we will hold them tight, and give them no space to play. We have a huge chance to go to the next round.
