Brave Gladiators coach, Jaqueline Shipanga on Thursday morning announced her final squad for the TN Mobile 9th African Women Championship Namibia 2014.

At a media conference held at the Namibia Football Association (NFA) secretariat, there were no surprises in the 21-member squad, with the regulars such as captain and defender Uerikondjera Kasaona, playmaker Zenatha Coleman and midfielder Thomalina Adams making the final cut.

Shipanga revealed it was a tough decision to pick the final team from the 24-players at her disposal.

“As I said before, I worked with these girls for so many years and I know what they can do and they all deserve to be around but the rules are clear we need only 21. We have the option of having a shortlist of players namely Anna Shikesho and Novata Paulus, who will be ready to ship in once there are injuries or something major to any of the 21 players before the competition starts”, Shipanga said.

The other player not in the final 21 is Rehoboth Queens’ Natasha Ndjao.

The Namibian trainer, also sang praise for the commitment shown by some senior players in the build-up to the tournament scheduled from 11-25 October 2014.

“Stella (Rita Williams) and Elmarie Fredericks have shown hunger and desire to be in the team and they made it. They have the experience to add value to the teams’ course” explains Shipanga.

Local coaches Bobby Samaria, Willem Kapukare, Timo Tjongarero, Woody Jacobs and Bernard Kaanjuka were announced as members of the Technical Advisory Committee which will be headed by the NFA Technical Director Klaus Starke.

The Brave Gladiators are scheduled to face Algeria in a friendly game on Saturday, 4 October 2014 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

The hosts are in Group A with Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria and Zambia.
