The Development of Football Medicine at CAF is aimed at increasing the pool of personnel trained in Sports Science and Medicine through educational programs and to provide comprehensive professional health care to all players at all levels in Africa.
In addition, one of CAF Sport Medicine Committee’s responsibilities is to ensure that appropriate medical care is in place as per established FIFA standards during training and tournaments. Finally, CAF encourages research as a tool for development and to fight against doping in football through awareness and controls.
A CAF Medical Congress is held every two years prior to the start of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations and it involves CAF affiliated members, doctors of all African A national teams as well as sports medicine officials and professionals.
The CAF Medical Congress serves as a key platform to raise awareness of major issues in football medicine and highlights the latest findings and research initiatives in Africa and around the world.
The ground-breaking SAFA/CAF Medical Symposium which touched on various medical issues afflicting the game and addressed ways to find lasting solutions took place at SAFA House on Saturday, 19 May 2018.
CAF on Tuesday, 30 January 2018, organized one-day seminar for medical officers and physical trainers of the five African teams qualified for the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 at the Maamoura National Sports Centre, near Rabat.
