Tanzania giants, Simba, expects a tough test when they play as guests of Gendarmerie of Djibouti in the preliminary round second leg clash on Tuesday in Djibouti.
Simba were 4-0 winners from the first leg a fortnight ago in Dar es Salaam but Assistant Coach, Masoud Djuma, expects a tough 90 minutes away from home and has tasked his players to play above themselves to ensure passage to the next round.
“It is a good thing that we won the first leg with good goal margin, but we won’t take the return leg easy. It is always difficult to play away, but we are going to fight as a team so that we can progress to the next round.
“Our opponents played defensively in Dar es Salaam; we hope that they will play different in the return leg. They will attack more and we need to be cautious especially in our defence. We will play with a lone striker and more midfielders to put them down,” said the former Rayon Sports coach.
On his part Simba captain, John Bocco, who will miss the clash due to an ankle injury sustained from a domestic league game against Mwadui last Thursday, has tasked his colleagues to go for the ‘kill’.
“We have good squad. My colleagues will take the game serious and can win. We want to win every single game ahead of us,” Bocco said.
Ghana-born midfielder James Kotei adds that easing past Gerdarmerie will confirm Simba’s readiness to rub shoulder with the big guns of continental club football.
“Simba is a big team and our fans expect us to win every game no matter where we are playing. I see every player thinking the same. I believe we can come out unscathed.
“Gendarmerie are good but we are better. Our defence is solid and we have conceded only two goals in the last seven games, and scored 20, we are good,” Kotei added.
