Egypt ease past Sudan into next round
Egypt booked their place at the next stage of the London 2012 Olympic Games qualifiers with a 2-0 victory over Sudan on Saturday in Cairo.
Second half goals from Ahmed Sherweda and Shehab Ahmed were enough to take the Pharaohs into the final round of the continental qualifiers.
After a barren first half, Sherweda broke the deadlock after on 58 minutes from a rebound after Sudan goalie Mounir Al-Khair spilled Saleh Gomaa’s long drive unto his path.
On 70 minutes, Shehab sealed victory by finishing off after Ahmed Hamoudi had put him through.
The Pharaohs qualified 2-0 on aggregate after a barren stalemate in the reverse fixture in Khartoum two weeks ago.
Egypt have never participated at the Olympics since the 1992 edition in Barcelona, Spain.
