Arrows avoids the drop as Namibian championship concludes
Namibian club side Eleven Arrows survived the drop on the final day as they beat United Stars 2-0 at the Khuisebmond Stadium at the weekend.
The two sides met in what was dubbed the game of Namibia Premier League Match-day-22 as they both tried to avoid relegation. Hotspurs were relegated last weekend after their 2-1 defeat to Black Afrcia and goals from Peter Ngwenya and Enrico Hoebeb gave Arrows the much needed victory to take their points to 20 in the season, sending United down to the First Division on 17 points.
Hotspurs hosted Blue Waters at the Khomasdal Stadium and they juts couldn’t add to their 14 points as they lost 3-1 to Waters.
Champions Black Africa ensured that their 1-0 defeat to Ramblers is the only defeat in 22 matches. They completed their season with a 1-0 victory over second placed Civics at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek to finish with 55 points.
Jerome Louis scored his 12th goal of the season to be joint top goal scorer with Richard Kavendjii of relegated Hotspurs. Civics finished second with 38 points, while African Stars finished third on 35 points after drawing 1-1 with Tigers, to claim the third place.
In other weekend results, Ramblers beat Orlando Pirates 3-1 and SKW were held by Mighty Gunners to a goalless draw. With Hotspurs going down to the Southern Steam First Division, Tura Magic came up and United Stars will be taking up their place in the Northern Stream First Division with Rundu Chiefs joining the Namibia Premier League next season.
